Hello El Oro Way Charter for Enriched Studies Learning Community,
Attendance & Tardies
This past month, our students with excellent attendance (attends 96%) fell to 57%. I understand that students who are sick need to stay home. Thank you for being mindful and keeping children who are sick and contagious at home. I ask, however, that students attend when they are healthy. I realize it can be very cost effective to travel before the weekend, but ask that children attend all school days. Not only do absent children need to catch up and make up for lost instruction, the students who attend are also affected in that group projects are interrupted and some instructional activities have to be put on hold. The habit of excellent school attendance prepares your child to be reliable and responsible adults. Employers value strong attendance as well as strong qualifications.
There are also now more families who arrive late and wait by the office to enter after the bell. I ask that these families implement preparing for school routines at home starting the evening before. As you prepare your children for bed prepare to leave on time by considering doing the following:
-Pack up their homework and other projects and materials in their backpack
-Pack lunch and water
-Select their clothes for the next day
-Place items near the door
-Set alarms for the morning
-Decide what to eat for breakfast
Plan to arrive at school at 7:50am or BEFORE. Gates open for students at 7:40am and it is not crowded nor congested at that time. We observe more parents driving unsafely or crossing the streets dangerously as the clock moves closer to 8:00am. Again, all are reminded to drive safely and with courtesy at all times. The office entry at 8:00am is not to be used as the planned arrival place and time. Unless I note a marked improvement, I will be implementing a change in the office entry process to include a conference with the parent to count and log tardies and introduce a tracker to improve on time arrival. This meeting will take some time and the children will be entering the classroom with their on-time arrival tracking contract cards.
Parent Teacher Conferences are November 1 - 8, 2024. Please check communications from your child’s teacher to schedule and attend. Thank you for your participation!
Message from Parent Community Rep - Mrs. Schiffman:
We are excited to continue our Kindness and Diversity initiative with our students! On Nov 7, students will enjoy a little taste of fresh fruits and veggies from around the world. Just as fruits and veggies are unique, special and different, so are we. Let's recognize and appreciate the same qualities in each other!
We would like to ask our learning community for donations of fruits and veggies. Feel free to sign up for multiple items and multiple quantities. Sign up here:
